What changes the plan for microgreens enquiries?
Trays at different growth stages may need different arrangements. Describe germination, illumination and harvesting separately; the planner does not recommend crop conditions or certify food production.
Discuss growing conditions, hygiene, water and intended operation before setup. Record the actual packed dimensions and any special requirements before using a generic unit-size comparison.
A practical idea for your workflow
Map each tray to a batch and stage rather than counting every shelf as illuminated canopy. A stage board makes the next handling task visible.
Bring this workflow into the enquiry alongside your measurements. It is a proposed organising method you can adapt, not a service operated on your behalf by the storage team.
Separate storage from operating a system
An equipment store and a live growing operation have different requirements. State the crop or stored equipment, supply needs and proposed activity. For growing, obtain crop-appropriate light and environmental guidance and include reservoirs, handling, cleaning and discharge. No yield, climate-controlled environment, food approval or complete growing package is promised.
Use the right planning inputs
Use the example below to understand the model, then replace the values with your own microgreen trays, illuminated shelving and service space. The example is a method demonstration, not an industry benchmark, facility specification or price quotation.
In this version, the planner highlights rack and allocated handling footprint and actually illuminated microgreen levels. All other fields retain their stated units and assumptions. The result can be added to an enquiry with the inputs attached, so the team can see what the number represents.

ILLUSTRATIVE METHOD EXAMPLE
Growing footprint, light & utility planner
A 4 m² rack footprint with two illuminated levels gives 8 m² of canopy. A 25% service-area share gives 5.33 m² planning floor area. At an average PPFD of 200 µmol/m²/s for 16 hours, DLI is 11.52 mol/m²/day. A 400 W lighting load and 40 W pump running 24 hours/day use 220.8 kWh over 30 days. These are planning examples, not recommended crop settings.
Questions to settle before booking
- Which stages are indoors, illuminated or handled elsewhere, and what approval is required?
- What are the actual packed dimensions, longest item and any relevant weight or handling requirements?
- Is the proposed use storage only, or does it include work, utilities, visitors or special materials?
- What rental period, retrieval frequency and collection vehicle will be involved?
The Beckedan facility has 9 m² and 18 m² standard unit footprints, with expansion considered on request. Confirm actual usable dimensions, access arrangements and suitability. The lane is grass, so discuss its current conditions before collection. Rent quotations exclude VAT; utility connections and fit-out are at client expense under agreed terms.
Questions about this use
Which stages are indoors, illuminated or handled elsewhere, and what approval is required?
Include the relevant details in the enquiry before treating the space as suitable. The team must assess the actual goods, activity and arrangements; this page does not pre-approve them.
How do I use this plan to request a quote?
Replace the example inputs, calculate the result and choose “Add plan to an enquiry”. The next screen prepares a draft. It does not reserve space or send the enquiry automatically.
Does a calculated result guarantee suitability?
No. The floor-area budget is our combined layout model; DLI and kWh conversions are established calculations. Count only levels actually illuminated. Include reservoirs and exclusive handling zones in the rack/service budget without double-counting. PPFD must describe the canopy light received during the entered light period; the tool does not convert watts to PPFD. Sunlight that varies needs integration or an appropriate measured average. Yield, crop suitability and profitability are not predicted.
