04 / VEHICLE & HORSE-BOX PARKING · KRUGERSDORP

Park the trailer.
Plan the whole arrival.

A parking rectangle is only the start. A horse box or trailer also needs an approach, room to manoeuvre and a practical collection plan. Measure the complete vehicle before requesting a bay.

Measure the horse box as it will stand

Record drawbar-to-rear length, widest fixed point and height. Include projecting equipment rather than only the body dimensions printed in a brochure. If a rear ramp or side door must open in the bay, plan for it explicitly. Tell us whether the tow vehicle remains attached and whether you expect frequent collections or a longer parking period.

The lane matters as much as the bay

The facility has a grass access lane rather than a tarred road. Ask about current ground conditions, gradients and the approach with your towing combination before travelling. A rectangle calculator cannot evaluate traction or wet-weather access. Supply vehicle photographs, axle/loading information and the turning requirements supplied by the manufacturer or operator.

Separate standing space from manoeuvring space

An uncoupled trailer may have a modest footprint but need considerably different approach space while attached to the towing vehicle. Ask where coupling and uncoupling will happen and whether another parked vehicle could obstruct collection. No turning radius, gate clearance or towing assistance is assumed. Covered and uncovered arrangements must be confirmed for the specific bay.

An original idea: a collection-ready parking record

At drop-off, record the agreed bay, orientation, authorised collector and any access instructions. Photograph the trailer’s position and note whether its ramp or coupling point must remain accessible. This makes later collection easier to explain without presenting a security guarantee. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s storage and maintenance instructions for periods off the road.

What the parking offer covers

Vehicle and horse-box arrangements are subject to terms, availability and client expense. This category concerns vehicle and trailer parking, not stabling, animal accommodation or care. Confirm whether parking is suitable for your vehicle, who retains keys, access hours, any cover and the applicable charges. Do not infer insurance or attended vehicle care from the availability of general site security.

WORKED EXAMPLE · ILLUSTRATIVE INPUTS

Standing footprint & bay-clearance planner

A 5.5 m horse-box trailer with a 2.3 m overall width, 1 m front clearance, 0.5 m rear clearance and 0.4 m on each side needs a 7.0 × 3.1 m planning rectangle, or 21.70 m². In a measured 7.5 × 3.5 m bay, that leaves 0.5 m length and 0.4 m width beyond your chosen allowances. It says nothing about the turning approach.

Before you book

  • Measure the drawbar, width, height and opening ramps.
  • Describe the tow vehicle and combined approach requirements.
  • Confirm grass-lane conditions and a suitable standing surface.
  • Agree access, key handling and covered/uncovered arrangements.

Arrange a site discussion with your measurements. Rental quotations exclude VAT; ask for the payable total. Availability, intended use and fit-out are subject to agreed terms.

Questions about vehicle & horse-box parking

Does horse-box parking include keeping horses?

No. This page describes parking a horse-box vehicle or trailer. Animal accommodation, stabling and care are not offered here.

Can the planner confirm a trailer fits?

It can compare standing dimensions with a measured bay. It cannot confirm the approach, turning path, surface suitability or availability.

Is the parking covered?

Ask about the specific arrangement. No covered bay or enclosed vehicle unit is promised.

Can I collect at any time?

Confirm access hours and the collection procedure. Security provision does not mean unrestricted customer access.
