01 / HOUSEHOLD STORAGE · KRUGERSDORP

Store your home.
Keep your next step clear.

Moving dates rarely line up perfectly. Renovations spread beyond one room. A household storage plan should protect your belongings while keeping the things you still need within reach.

Practical guideYour calculatorBefore bookingQuestions

Start with what must remain accessible

Separate your inventory into three groups: belongings you will not need until collection day, items you may retrieve during the rental, and essentials that should remain with you. Store a winter coat or business file differently from a dining table you will collect at the end. This simple separation often changes the layout more than the total number of boxes. Keep documents, medication and daily necessities outside the stored load.

Choose a footprint, then check the awkward item

Our standard footprints are 3 × 3 m and 6 × 3 m, with expansion considered on request. A sofa that fits the floor area may still struggle through the entrance. Measure the longest packed item, its width and any turning space it needs. Record the door opening and usable internal dimensions during a visit. Room-count guides are a starting point; a measured inventory gives a better discussion.

Pack for the order you will unpack

Use a room-and-box code such as K-01 for kitchen and B-03 for bedroom. Keep an inventory showing contents and location in the unit. Place the first items you need at the new home near the front, rather than wherever they fit on loading day. Clean and dry goods before packing. Follow appliance instructions for draining and transport, and avoid sealing damp textiles into plastic.

An original idea: a two-stage move-in plan

For a renovation, identify the first room being worked on and the last room expected to finish. Label the stored items by return phase rather than only by room. Ask the team about access and vehicle arrangements for two smaller collections instead of assuming you must clear the unit in one trip. The benefit is organisational: the planner does not claim this reduces your quoted rental or transport bill.

Make the quote comparable

Request the monthly rent excluding VAT, the payable total, deposit, notice period and any separately charged services. Include your inventory, start date, likely duration and retrieval frequency. The move-in offer applies to stays longer than six months and collection within 50 km, with detailed terms still to be confirmed. Do not subtract a free move from your budget until your eligibility and covered load are agreed.

WORKED EXAMPLE · ILLUSTRATIVE INPUTS

Household space & access planner

With 6 m³ of stackable belongings, a 1.8 m planning height and 75% packing efficiency, the stackable area is 4.44 m². Add 3 m² of furniture footprint and a 2 m² access allowance: the estimate becomes 9.44 m². That is above 9 m², so discuss an 18 m² or custom layout. The same load with less access may use less area but become harder to retrieve.

Before you book

  • Photograph and measure large furniture before transport.
  • List packed box dimensions and the items you cannot stack.
  • Confirm opening size, access hours and notice terms.
  • Discuss current conditions on the grass access lane.

Arrange a site discussion with your measurements. Rental quotations exclude VAT; ask for the payable total. Availability, intended use and fit-out are subject to agreed terms.

Questions about household storage

Will a 9 m² unit hold a bedroom?

It depends on the actual furniture, packed volume and access you need. Use the planner to prepare an inventory, then verify the physical layout with the team. A bedroom count alone is not a fit guarantee.

Can I collect one item without emptying the unit?

Plan for that item before loading and reserve accessible space. Confirm the facility’s access arrangements; an aisle inside your unit does not establish access hours.

Does the estimate include packaging and transport?

No. It estimates planning area. Request separate prices for rent, transport, packaging, deposits and other services.

Can I store belongings during a long renovation?

Discuss your intended duration and notice terms. Include any phased collections in the enquiry so your access requirements are clear.
